best skills based testing platform

Avantages
TestGorilla has a vide variety of tests and based on scientifical approach combined with strong practical expertise of TG team. TG reduces your time for screening and preliminary interviewing of employees. Once the test passed you can go to screening of portfolio [technical staff] or references list [management] not using time for more interviews of more you actually need to judge the choice to hire.
Inconvénients
Some tests, especially for soft skills have a lot of questions - it splits focus and some can be not clear answered. Technical - needed Prospective June level for rising stars to be choosen cause some programming level tests are hard to pass, it makes reliability but does not help to employer to save costs. There is lack of integration with platforms for remote hire of contractors: UpWork, Glassdoor, Toptal. I wish TestGorilla will cooperate with large institution it make it more popular.

Good so far, I enjoyed the free trial and the demo provided.
Avantages
The ability to accurately identify candidates that leave the testing environment, as well as the live tracking and volume of tests.
Inconvénients
The pricing structure. For a startup, a monthly plan would suit best.

Disappointing experience
We used the platform for technical recruitments. One of the main reasons we chose Test Gorilla was to create tasks for technical roles. However, over time, we’ve realized that the tasks on the platform don’t quite meet our expectations and are unable to fully assess our candidate's technical skills. They are either too simple or too difficult, and some of our candidates also find technical tasks irrelevant for assessing their skills and are unwilling to complete them. Considering all of this, we have decided not to use the platform in our hiring process in 2025 and to return to our own assessment methods.
Since we didn’t cancel the subscription, the annual package was renewed. After contacting them within 1-2 hours to say that we didn’t wish to use the product, we requested a refund for the subscription fee. However, our refund request was rejected. Despite repeatedly stating that we will not be using their platform, they are refusing to refund our payment. Customer representatives are not helpful at all and keep dismissing the issue by saying it's company policy. We had a very bad experience with this. It is truly disappointing that we have made a payment for a platform we are dissatisfied with and will not be using.

Good, but could be even better.
Better than expected, but the lack of a short term month to month subscription is a problem for us.
Avantages
Easy to set up and use with some interesting assessments on the free plan.
Inconvénients
You can't see the invitation or the rejection emails on the free plan.
You can't view the test questions, so it's a leap into the unknown as a first time user.
If you customise a screening question and need to edit it - you can't. You have to delete it and start again.
You have to subscribe for a year. As a first time user from a small start up, we probably would have paid for a plan for a month or two - but can't justify the cost for an entire year for one hire.
There is no reminder option to remind a candidate to take the test.

The one year subscription only did not allow us to buy the subscription at this time, we would have definitely move forward if the monthly subscription was available

Great Adaptability
Great. this is my second employer that I have brought in test gorilla to use.
Avantages
Love being able to build my own test with premade test templates, but also that I am able to create my own questions.
Inconvénients
So many features are in the premium. Unless you really want the bottom tier basic you have to upgrade.

Great App, Strongly Recommend
I loved my experience with TestGorilla so far, it's changed how I do the interview process completely
Avantages
I liked that it standardizes candidate evaluation and removes the bias. I've done the tests myself and they are amazingly built.
Inconvénients
Nothing at the moment, the free version is a bit limited so I may eventually move to a priced plan. However, it's still a great tool as is.

Best technical testing platform
We were able to screen several programmer applicants and it revealed those who had the potential to be great developers vs. those which were lacklustre.
Avantages
The programming tests are very comprehensive and measures the time it takes the test taker to provide answers.
Inconvénients
Pricing is on an annual contract basis. It would be easy to decide to subscribe if it was on a monthly payment and contracting basis.

Great testing!
Positive. We are still in the process of hiring but it has helped us short list candidates.
Avantages
Indeed has removed their testing feature which we liked to use for hiring. We found test gorilla and the tests options are even better as we can pick and choose.
Inconvénients
Nothing so far. I found it very easy to use and the part where you can compare applicants is helpful.

Great tests inside of the portal to really screen candidates
Inconvénients
The customer services is shady. There are certain things not mentioned in the small print. Whether you pay monthly or annually they hold you to a year commitment and don't break it down until its too late. Customer services doesn't respond but the sales team will connect with you in 5 minutes. All I can say is RUN!

Easy to use - simple setup and ability to send candidates
I have been looking for a solution to easily send job applicants assessments during the recruiting process and it's solved for that.
Avantages
Ease of use. Ability to put an assessment together in minutes. The system sends out an email to applicants and they are then guided through the steps. The interface is very clean and clear and there are built-in safeguards to prevent others from completing the assessment for the candidates.I like that all of the major personality tests are available on the free version. As well as a number of skill-based assessments as well.
Inconvénients
I've been using the free version, which is great. Of course, there are some limitations, but that is understood while using the free version. Despite those limitations, it's beneficial.The personality assessments are great, though I'm starting to be a bit unsure of their validity, as the majority of respondents tend to get the same result. I'm unclear if that's due to the similar nature of the roles I'm using them for, or if it's something else.

Changing our perspective
It definitely has been a game changing on the way we approach recruitment, and it has allowed us to obtain so much information about or candidates. With this, we can now have a clearer idea of the strengths of every candidate, and we can take more informed decisions and decide if we want to invest time and resources in continuing with the interview process with certain candidates or not.
Avantages
The complexity of the tests, which allowed us to accurately measure aspects that otherwise we could not measure about our candidates.
Inconvénients
I would have liked to get a more comprehensive summary of the results of the candidates, showing a comparison on how each candidate is doing on the different tests or sub categories within each test.

Horrible customer service.
For a few days we were unable to access any of our test results; apparently there were software problems. TestGorilla did not send an email to their customers to inform them of such a huge issue that for us majorly affected our recruitment efforts and in return provided an unpleasant experience to our candidates. We only found out about the software issues they were dealing with weeks later when their customer service finally decided to respond back to us. I reached out to their customer service three times, on their website it says, "We'll reply via email within one business day.", it took weeks to hear back. We could have looked past a few of the concerns we had with the software, but we can't work with a company who has such poor customer service response times, it is unacceptable to take weeks to get back to a customer, especially when this is affecting their business.

The ease and interface of the software.

Aside from the horrible customer service we received, there were random times we were unable to access the test results. A few times I went to check our results and the screen was completely blank and showing we had no candidates that were tested when the day before was visible. You also cannot see the questions that are asked or the responses; therefore, you don't exactly know what the gaps are for your candidates. If we decide to hire them, it would be nice to see how we can better support them in their professional development and know which training to provide to ensure they are successful. I understand their reasoning behind it, and I should have dived in deeper to the demos, if I had looked into the software further, we never would have moved forward with them.

The ability to assess specific skills sets in the recruitment process. Now instead of taking someone's word, we can actually shortlist based on the skill set that we would like.

Buyer Beware - Not what I expected
Horrible and I am very disappointed in the way they treated us as a customer.
Avantages
I honestly have no pros I can say about the product.
Inconvénients
The pricing model is not easy to understand.
The free trial is barely a trial.
You cannot see the questions to know if it is a good test.
Support is dismal and takes days to get back to you.
We barely used the product and had our first candidate have difficulty taking the test.
The beware part, they state nothing in their terms as far as a refund which they would not grant the refund even though we explained the difficulty of all of the above.
You pay yearly, so if you do not like it, you are crap out of luck.

Good product for especialized jobs
I liked the tool but didn´t fit my recruiting market.
Avantages
The library test area great for a specific area such as Technologies, Programming, and Software development.
Inconvénients
The idea of buying the tool was to have preset library tests such as evaluation of customer service, personality and critical thinking, but the orientation was just for certain fields. It's a very expensive tool to create quizzes or tests, with other tools in the market such as Microsoft Forms. The value of the tool is the analytics and reports.

Easy to configure, but quality of the coding tests is not great
We use TG to assess developers after we've had a first interview with them.
Avantages
It's easy to create your own test suite, and selecting predefined tests helps with getting started quickly. I also like the as-they-type code view - it helps to get an idea of how the developer constructs a solution - and I appreciate the automated screenshots (to my surprise all the candidates accepted video captures).
I also like the logical thinking tests, although there's not really a way to see the users responses (this goes for all the questions).
Inconvénients
I found some of the tests to be lacking in quality, sometimes resulting in frustration from the developer, or unhelpful results. For example:
* the advanced SQL test is not a realistic scenario, and only has 2 outcomes: success or failure. It makes it hard to get an idea of the developers grasp of the subject, because it's just 1 giant assignment. If you get 90% right, you score 0 points.
* the Laravel test does not really test the developers ability to use the framework in real life situations, but rather tests for static knowledge.
* I found the PHP tests to be too simple and sometimes just poorly constructed (for example the prefilled function and parameter names are not great)
I also created a custom PHP test, but the outcome verification has a bug, which will sometimes accept wrong answers (error status === true).
I would have liked to see the users responses to multiple choice questions. Because of the randomness in the questionnaires, you don't know which questions they got. It would be helpful to see if maybe a user got dealt a couple of poor questions (and there are a few). It's a shame that (as a paying customer) this information is not revealed.

Useful but needs improvement
Avantages
The ability to customize tests with self selection from the array provided helps the test be more specific to what we need verification of before hiring for a high demand position.
Inconvénients
The test options are plentiful but some are confusing, the inability to do more than see 2-3 questions preview makes it hard to know if the test truly matches what you need without taking the test yourself (which should be Free to allow admin to do so and verify the test matches company needs).
The timed feature on self made test questions should be more flexible, 2 minutes is unfortunately not enough time for longer test questions with lots of detailed options for slow readers.
The inability to change a test after its been sent to an applicant means multiple versions of the same test for the same position now exist and theres no way to "label" it to know which version has which testers, forcing me to open each option and look through the test names to find who im looking for.
More tests that are less corporate office and a few more options that match small business needs (such as time management questions which fit more corp settings than small 3 man office).

Streamlined the Screening Process
It has definitely saved us time and the calibre of interviewees means are conversion form interview to hire has improved drastically.
Avantages
Being able to direct our candidates to a branded assessment centre, which then takes a lot of the leg work out of CV screening, giving us the ability to quickly select the best candidates for the role.
Having the options to create different assessments for different roles is great.
Inconvénients
Unfortunately it does not link in to out recruitment software.

- Easy to use from an administrative point
- Easy to read results
- Lots of variety in the assessments already made & the option to customize
- Organized nicely: can view all results in the timing they come in or by best score
Inconvénients
- Sometimes candidates aren't granted access so we have to go in on our side to figure out why/ get it resent
- candidates cannot set up their account and then return to it to take the test. From our experience, if a candidate signs up and doesn't immediately take the assessment, they will not be let in when they return to do so. Unclear if it is a system or user error in this example.
